Applications are invited for the position of Space Planning Manager in the Planning, Sustainability & Capital Projects division, located at the Welland Campus.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Planning, Sustainability, & Capital Projects, the Space Planning Manager provides technical expertise and operational support, advice, and assistance related to the efficient and effective use and design of all existing and potential college space, as well as the design and recommendation of appropriate learning environments, student services, common areas, and office environments.
The Space Planning Manager contributes towards the improvement and enhancement of college environments through effective space programming and design, the improved and efficient layout of all college owned and operated facilities and properties, through the evaluation and acquisition of innovative furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and through the management and completion of assigned projects from inception to fulfilment.
The position is responsible for developing proposals in conjunction with the Master Plan and in accordance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), fire code, and current Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) guidelines; and delivers creative and innovative solutions to resolve evolving space challenges through sound design and project planning and execution.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Meeting with project sponsors, interested parties, various departments to evaluate and establish needs
- Defining usage scenarios and making alternate recommendations when required
- Development of space options, solutions and creation of drawings and plans for review and approval
- Management of space, assisting with layouts and options for moves and maintaining space inventory
- Management and coordination of space needs associated to College Master plan including identifying interim solutions, phasing, program requirements and department/ program space analysis
- Creation and management of space guidelines, furniture standards, design guidelines including interior and exterior
- Management of signage requests, wayfinding, etc.
Qualifications:
- Three (3) year degree/diploma in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Space Planning, or similar field of study
- A related professional designation from SCUP, CACPT, OACETT, or ARIDO is preferred
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in space planning management for a large complex organization
- Project management experience related to space planning and move management
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Canadian Safety Association Guidelines
- Demonstrated leadership, planning, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills with a customer service-oriented approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with multi-disciplinary groups of stakeholders
- Strong proficiency and knowledge with a wide range of software such as AutoCAD, Rivet, project management software, Microsoft Office, and computerized integrated workplace management systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of furniture systems and layouts
- Ability to take initiative and be proactive, while also working as a member of a larger team
- Valid driver’s license
Salary and Total Rewards:
- Pay band range: $85,529 – $106,911
- Target hiring salary: $85,529 – $96,220
