IoT Data Management and Devices (sensors) within Facilities

Fanshawe is nearing the end of an RFP process to select a solution provider to deliver an agnostic, flexible data infrastructure to house sensor data from College systems. The intent is to have a structured environment to:
a) collect data from the growing list of IoT devices (sensors),
b) return notifications to stakeholders when exceptions occur (e.g. temperature threshold is exceeded or, sensors do not capture data for extended periods),
c) provide a location where controlled/ secure access can be provided to operators, academics and researchers to retrieve data sets for further study, and
d) share trend data and metrics to College stakeholders through reports, dashboards and (no-touch) digital displays.

We plan to test the proposed solution on a recent solar panel implementation that includes approximately 50 streams of data from device sensors. If successful, we have plans to expands to several additional energy projects.

Hope you’re well. We are going through a similar exercise here at Georgian. Ultimately moving away from proprietary systems, and using a standard protocol was the best route to go. We are using BACnet as this standard, and have actively used 3rd party integration to allow our different systems and attached sensors to poll data. There are a ton of avenues you can pursue, but the ultimate goal here is to not have all the eggs in one basket. Feel free to reach out anytime to discuss.
