Looking for a sense of where other campuses are at with their security measures? SC is leaning towards a secure perimeter with card access only but wondering if that’s over the top compared to other community colleges.  Any comments regarding the utilization of CCTV technology (ie. face recognition, metal detection etc.) would also be beneficial.

      Thanx in advance.

      Hi,

At Loyalist, when perimeter doors are replaced, we install card access.  Our Pioneer Building has card readers at every main entrance.  There are other service doors but we have installed special cores keyed to the same cores as the electronic locks.  There are only 2 key copies and only available to a very limited amount of people in a lock box.   We have replaced 80% of our Kente Building (main building) with electronic locks with plan to do more as doors are replaced.   We have measures in place that at a push of a button, all perimeter doors can be locked.  Also, it as the doors are on a set schedule, lock/unlock complaints have been eliminated.

No metal detectors.  CCTV at every door, high coverage of public areas, working to improve in parking lots and grounds.  Newer technology/cameras have AI/facial recognition capabilities but not using it at this time.

      Hope this helps
